A kids' birthday party in McKinney comes down to three choices: your backyard, a city park pavilion, or a venue package. A backyard costs the least. A pavilion at Finch Park or Towne Lake Park is about $30 an hour for residents. Venue packages for a 90-minute party mostly run about $175 to $300.

Park pavilions in McKinney

The city rents pavilions at two parks: Finch Park and Towne Lake Park. Each park has an East and a West pavilion that hold up to 75 people. Each has picnic tables and a charcoal grill. Rentals are $30 an hour for McKinney residents and $50 for non-residents, in two windows: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. or 4 to 9 p.m. (City of McKinney).

Reserve through the city's facility reservation form or by calling Parks at 972-547-2690. A 2-hour party plus an hour each side for setup and cleanup is 4 hours, or about $120 for residents.

Tip: Pavilions have open sides. In summer, take the morning window and start by 10 a.m. Bring twice the ice: Festidy plans 2 lb a guest, doubled on days of 85°F or more.

Bring what the park won't have: a folding table for the cake, tablecloths with clips and a wagon. Add trash bags, wet wipes and a small first-aid kit. Pack a few games that need no setup: bubbles, a parachute, freeze dance from a phone speaker, or a scavenger hunt with picture clues.

Venue packages around McKinney

If you'd rather not host, these are a few local options and what they listed:

  • Apex Centre (city rec center): a 1-hour party room with one or two hosts, themed decor, favors, cupcakes, chips and drinks, plus open swim. $300 for members and $420 for non-members, for 15 people including adults; extra guests are $9 each. Weekends only, booked 14 to 180 days ahead (City of McKinney).
  • Wayback Barn: about $200 for a 90-minute private party with play areas, mini golf and lawn games; you bring the cake.
  • Bricks Bots & Beakers and Snapology: about $175 to $199 for a 90-minute STEM or building party with an instructor and a room.

The last three come from a July 2025 local roundup (Macaroni KID). Prices change, so confirm before you put a deposit down. Also ask how many kids are included, since that is where packages differ most.

  • Heat. From June to September, start at 9 or 10 a.m. or after 6 p.m. Put the food and the cake in the shade, and keep water on every table.
  • Storms. Spring and early summer bring quick storms. Decide on your indoor plan the day before. The indoor backup plan has rain swaps for every game.
  • Fire ants. Walk the yard two days before and treat any mounds where kids will sit or play.
