Invitation wording ideas
Words for your invitation, by party type and tone, filled in with your child's name and age. Copy one, or put it on a Festidy invitation with an RSVP link.
A Festidy invitation carries these words, a theme design and an RSVP link guests answer without an account.
Make my invitationHow it works
- Six ideas for each party and tone, plus one with your theme's line when you pick a theme. Each has a top line, a main line and the details.
- Names and ages: leave them empty to see a sample (Liam, turning 6). Ages go in plainly, with no puns, so the date and age are easy to read at a glance.
- The sample date is a Saturday 3 weeks from today (4 weeks for showers, graduations and grown-up parties), with replies asked a week before. Change it to yours.
- Party length follows Festidy's planner: 2 hours for a kids' birthday, 90 minutes for a first birthday, 2.5 hours for a baby shower and 3 hours for graduations, grown-up birthdays and house parties.

What to put on a birthday invitation
- Whose party it is and the age they're turning.
- The date, start time and end time. An end time tells parents when to pick up.
- The address, with a note on parking, a gate code or which door to use.
- How and when to reply. A phone number or RSVP link, and a date a week before the party.
- Drop-off or stay, and whether siblings are welcome.
- What to wear or bring: a swimsuit, clothes that can get messy, a costume.
- Gifts, only if you want none or have a plan like a book swap.
- A note about allergies. Ask guests to tell you when they reply.
Tips for invitation wording
- Send invitations 3 to 4 weeks ahead. For showers and graduations in May and June, send them 6 weeks ahead, since weekends fill up.
- Put the RSVP date in the first read. A week before the party gives you time to order food and favors.
- Keep the main line short. Name, age and one warm line; the details go underneath.
- Say it once. If a line repeats something the details already say, cut it.
Questions
How do you word a birthday invitation?
Say whose party it is and the age, then the date, start and end time, the address and a reply-by date. "Please join us to celebrate Liam's 6th birthday" with the details underneath is all you need.
How do you say no gifts on a birthday invitation?
Keep it short and warm: "No gifts, please. Your company is the best present." For kids, a book swap ("bring a favorite book to swap, and every child takes one home") gives guests something to bring.
What should a baby shower invitation say?
Who the shower honors, who is hosting, the date, time and address, who to reply to and by when, and where the parent-to-be is registered. Send it 3 to 4 weeks ahead, or 6 for a shower in May or June.
How do you word a graduation party invitation?
Name the graduate and their class ("Emma, Class of 2027"), the date and hours, and say if it's an open house where guests can come and go. Ask for replies a week before.
How do you word a drop-off party invitation?
Say it plainly in the details: "This is a drop-off party. Pick-up is at 4 PM." An end time and a phone number help parents plan.
How do you word a surprise party invitation?
Put "It's a surprise" near the top, ask guests to arrive 30 minutes before the guest of honor, and ask them not to mention it. A note on where to park helps keep the secret.
