Pick the party, the age and what they love, and get three themes that fit, each with a plan, games and songs. The ideas change as you answer.
Pick a theme and Festidy builds the plan around it: invitation, decor, food, games and a dated checklist.
Make my party planHow it works
- The party: only themes made for that kind of party. Festidy has 52 themes for kids' birthdays, 20 for baby showers, 14 for graduations, 38 for grown-up birthdays and 19 for house and holiday parties.
- Age: every kids' theme has an age range (Dinosaur is 2 to 8, Detective mystery 8 to 14). A theme 1 or 2 years outside the range moves down the list; 3 or more years out, it's left out.
- What they love: the strongest signal. Each interest points to the themes that match it best (Dinosaurs to Dinosaur) and a few that match a little (Dinosaurs to Jungle safari and Construction). A theme that matches two interests ranks higher.
- When: holiday themes show up only in their month or the month either side (Halloween in September to November). Outdoor themes like Farm and Bugs and butterflies rank lower out of season.
- Where: a backyard or park lifts outdoor themes. At home, inside, the pool party is left out.
- Ties: the more popular theme comes first, using the same popularity score as the theme picker in Festidy's planner.

Tips for picking a party theme
- Let the child choose from three. A short list is easier for a kid than a catalog, and they will remember picking it.
- Pick the theme before the invitations. It decides the colors, the cake and the games, so everything after it is quicker.
- One big piece carries a theme. A themed cake, a backdrop or one main game does more than themed napkins, cups and straws.
- Mixed ages? Choose a wide range. Space fits ages 1 to 10 and Art studio 3 to 12, so siblings and cousins all join in.
- Outdoors needs a backup. For a backyard or park theme, plan where the games go if it rains.
Questions
What are good birthday party themes for a 5-year-old?
Sports, Berry sweet, Video game, Princess and Construction are popular picks that fit age 5. Dinosaur (ages 2 to 8), Space (1 to 10) and Superhero (3 to 9) are classics that work too.
What is a good theme for a first birthday?
Soft, simple themes work best at age 1: Berry sweet, Bows, Farm, Jungle safari, Rainbow and Space all fit. Keep the party to about 90 minutes, since little ones tire fast.
What are good party themes for a 10-year-old?
Sports, Video game, Pop star, Spa day, Circus and carnival and Wizard all fit age 10. From about 8, Glow and Detective mystery are good for kids who want something that feels older.
What are some unique kids' party themes?
Detective mystery (ages 8 to 14), Slime (6 to 11), Paris (5 to 14), Rodeo roundup (1 to 10) and Bugs and butterflies (1 to 6) are less common than the classics and easy to do at home.
How do I choose a party theme?
Start with what the child loves right now, then check that the theme suits their age and the month. If it's outdoors, pick a theme that still works if you move inside.
What are good baby shower themes?
Festidy has 13 baby shower themes. Little sprout, Garden tea party, Jungle safari, Berry sweet and Bows are popular, and Little pumpkin fits a shower in the fall.
