Plan the baby showerHow we calculate
- Weeks to dates: a due date is week 40. We count back from it, so you reach 28 weeks 84 days before the due date and 32 weeks 56 days before it.
- The usual window, 28 to 32 weeks: Minted and Happiest Baby both say 28 to 32 weeks, and The Bump says most are between 27 and 31. We use 28 to 32. Showers do happen earlier, from about 24 weeks, and a few later, at 35 to 37 weeks.
- Twins: 24 to 28 weeks. Minted suggests around 26 to 28 weeks for multiples, with some parents going as early as 24 in case of an early delivery. Happiest Baby says around 28 weeks or earlier.
- A second baby: the same window, with a smaller "sprinkle" in mind. Minted and The Bump both suggest a sprinkle for a later baby.
- Weekends: every Saturday and Sunday from today to the end of the window. The week count beside each is the weeks of pregnancy completed on that date.
- Invitations: 4 to 6 weeks before the shower, which is what The Bump and Minted say. Festidy's baby shower checklist puts "Send the invitations" 28 days before and notes 6 weeks for a big shower or a holiday weekend.
- The steps: the dates for the shower you pick come from Festidy's own baby shower checklist.
- This is a calendar guide, not medical advice. Babies come on their own schedule. Follow your doctor's advice about timing, travel and activity.

Tips for planning the shower
- Ask the parents-to-be first. Festidy's checklist starts with a check-in: surprise or not, co-ed or not, games or no games, and anything they would rather skip.
- Pick two weekends. Choose a main date and a backup inside the window, so an early arrival or a sick guest does not cancel everything.
- Put the registry on the invitation. The checklist adds it about 5 weeks before, so guests can shop before the date.
- Keep it to about . That is the length Festidy plans for a baby shower: arrivals, food, one main activity, gifts and goodbyes.
Questions
When should you have a baby shower?
Most sources say between 28 and 32 weeks of pregnancy. That is late enough that guests know the baby is coming and early enough that the parents are comfortable. Always follow your doctor's advice about timing.
How many weeks before the due date should a baby shower be?
About 8 to 12 weeks before. A shower at 28 weeks is 12 weeks before the due date and one at 32 weeks is 8 weeks before. For twins, 12 to 16 weeks before.
Who hosts a baby shower?
Close friends, family members or coworkers typically host, according to Minted. Some parents-to-be host their own. Whoever hosts, ask the parents-to-be what they want before you book a date.
When should baby shower invitations go out?
4 to 6 weeks before the shower. Send them earlier if many guests have busy schedules or travel, and ask for replies about 10 days before.
When should you have a baby shower for twins?
Earlier, usually 24 to 28 weeks, because twins often arrive early. Minted suggests around 26 to 28 weeks. Ask your doctor what they advise.
Do you have a baby shower for a second baby?
Many parents have a smaller "sprinkle" instead, with fewer guests and a lighter plan. Send invitations about a month ahead, or wait until after the birth for a casual "sip and see".
